first please read the poem written by my dear suralda- achintya sural. he is such a deep humanist. such a sensitive soul he is.
Then you may read what i have written upon reading it. i may be wrong, but that is what i felt.
suralda desired to have my reaction on that, actually.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
dear dada,
you should not write such stark, naked truth. it is so painfully true.
in fact, the plight of people is really excruciating.
less than five kilometres from the hub of ranchi, people are in dire strait. in subhuman condition.
it creates a heavy burden on the sensitive mind. i also suffer.
but i have a firm belief that nothing can be done by small individual efforts, even by big individual efforts.
only, only, if the supreme material power, i.e the state, the local and global leadership, wish to change things, things can be changed.and can be changed fast, very fast.
individual and small efforts can never change things. so sensitive individuals should try to poke the state directly through public lettters.
our media is hopeless. they never highlight govt schemes etc. on there own. they never give concrete information on how the poor can benefit from the various schemes. media in india is not playing their role at all. media must systematically highlight the available schemes, percentage of utilisation, the problems, the suggestions, should educate the poor about their rights, should guide us about how to help, and media should also list out the areas of preference to the government. for example, ranchi newspapers can list out the problems systematically so that the govt can take up the items serially. but they will never do that. out tv is also a great farce. a great potential wasted on low-grade crude entertainment.
i hope someday somebody will simply list out all the govt schemes and publish it, and its online uptodate performance of utilisation repeatedly in all newspapers, radio and tv. it will increase utilisation and reduce corruption. sure. only this thing can improve the scenario a lot. but they will never do it.so we should poke the media to do it.
i do not believe in 'doing my small bit'. the canvas is too big. doing my small bit only creates more injustice by focussing some particular beneficiaries out of the downtrodden. the development must be total. and only total power can do it. total power is there, but it is callous, corrupt and careless.
think of one anti-hitler. i mean a hitler with an opposite mind. what extreme good he could have done. but alas we never had one.
finally, dada, thanks, because everything said and done, your poem is simply extraordinary.
it is so deeply touching that it has brought out a rare reaction from me. i simply wish, like you and many others like you, that all persons may become equal, equally simple and equally happy, and nobody should oppress anybody else. and Nature to be loved as the final source from where we come, to where we belong , for what we survive and to which we return.
regards,
bhaya
